Replace Struts on a Toyota Camry

Step 1: Jack Up the Vehicle

Position the jack under the appropriate lifting point on your Toyota Camry. Raise the vehicle using the jack until the wheels are completely off the ground. Then, secure the vehicle on jack stands to ensure stability and safety.

 Step 2: Remove the Wheel

Using the socket set and ratchet, loosen and remove the lug nuts securing the wheel. Once the nuts are removed, gently pull the wheel off the hub and set it aside.

Step 3: Remove the Old Struts

Locate the strut assembly, which is typically connected to the upper control arm and the chassis of the vehicle. Using the socket set and ratchet, remove the bolts securing the strut to the chassis. Once the bolts are removed, carefully remove the old strut from the vehicle.

Step 4: Install the New Struts

Grease the mounting surfaces of the new struts using the grease gun. This will help ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion. Position the new strut on the vehicle, aligning it with the upper control arm and chassis. Secure the strut using the bolts and torque wrench, ensuring they are tightened to the recommended specifications.

 Step 5: Reattach the Wheel

Place the wheel back on the hub and secure it using the lug nuts. Tighten the nuts evenly, ensuring they are properly torqued.

 Step 6: Lower the Vehicle

Remove the jack stands and carefully lower the vehicle using the jack. Once the vehicle is back on the ground, remove the jack and inspect the new struts for any looseness or misalignment.

 Step 7: Test the Vehicle

Take the vehicle for a test drive, paying attention to any unusual noises or vibrations. If everything is properly installed, the vehicle should ride smoothly and handle better than before.

Replacing struts on a Toyota Camry requires some mechanical knowledge and care. Following the steps outlined in this article, you can complete the task safely and effectively. Remember to use the proper tools, follow the correct torque specifications, and test the vehicle after the replacement to ensure optimal performance.
